Hey friend! Thanks for coming by.

I’m Paul Gavin. I’m a professional drummer, teacher, composer and arranger. I’ve been hitting things since middle school band and now I play all around the SWFL area and sometimes elsewhere too. Right now I live in Tampa, FL but I’m from Sanibel, FL a beautiful island with too many tourists, only one non-local restaurant chain and no traffic lights.

I believe deeply in music’s capacity for healing. As a result I consider myself a healer and have high expectations for myself. I know every time I play I can contribute to people’s well being so I want to do a good job every time I touch my instrument.

I’ve focused exclusively on music for the entirety of my adult life but now I’m expanding to a hobby I’ve always had – writing. This blog is all about the things that keep me a happy drummer. That includes the way I live, the way I play the drums, the way I teach, the things that are important to me.

As I chronicle the current version of my ever-changing self and my philosophies here I want to add value to your life as a musician or a person who wants to be happy – maybe even both. If you’re not a musician, I hope this can give you a peek into what we do.

If you’re looking for more nitty gritty drum nerd stuff like free transcriptions and blog content about the technical aspects of drumming head to my other site Drummer’s Transcribed. You won’t find any of that here.

If you’re looking for more professional information about me you can find videos of my playing, info about my band Full Force, and a (somewhat) proper biography at my website.

I strive to keep every aspect of my life as simple as possible.

I love Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

Jesus is my friend. I’m trying to be a better friend to him every day.

You can find me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and Medium.

You can find a list and description of my current projects here.

I hope you enjoy reading and that the writing here contributes to your life in a valuable way.
